From Jesus to Christ

When you find yourself in a place where the Spirit of Christ is drawing you away from the Religion of Jesus you once embraced. It will take time and patience to negotiate the space between these two planes of existence. It is a very difficult transition especially when most of your life you were not aware there actually was a difference between the two.  On top of this people will not understand your growing rejection of major concepts of the Religion of Jesus.

For example the Spirit of Christ will make it more and more difficult for you to believe those not in the Religion of Jesus are going to Hell, or that Jesus came to die for your sins and you are basically evil, rather than the Spirit of Christ’s teaching that one must die for loves growth and that you are good and loved.

I will tell your biggest struggle with be with people still in and committed to the Religion of Jesus.  Now some of these people are in fact fellow travelers and their questions are actually about discovery of The Christ.  The problem is you’re in transition and many times the best you can say is “well I just believe God is Love.”  Be patient though Love which defines the very nature of the Spirit of Christ has a language of it’s own but it takes time learn.  As Paul taught so well in Cor. 13 love as it is leaving the trappings of religion must struggle against the former until only it remains.

These people however will not be the source of your greatest heartache, it will be those fully committed to the Religion of Jesus who you loved deeply.  You see the Religion of Jesus has had thousands of years to develop a defense against this very transition you find yourself in.  These well meaning people ask you questions but they are not for discovery but rather to compare your answers against the prescribed ones, the ones the Religion of Jesus demands you get correct.

My dear friend let me help you here don’t go there, the Religion of Jesus has been designed to judge you and label you.  (Unlike I might add here the actual Spirit of Christ for whom judgment is a distraction from loves mission.)  It has been designed to defend itself at all costs, it is a fixed faith system with very strong walls and intricate defenses.  The energy you spend fighting it and trying to change it will only cost you and is not worth it.  You are in fact only looking for the called the elect if you will “for many are called but few are chosen” although and here’s the Spirit of Christs revelation “all are loved.”  The Religion of Jesus is in fact coming to a point of crisis but much like the Temple “no stone will be left upon another”, until all that remains is the perfection of love.

Just continue your journey and don’t look back as Jesus taught, look for like minded souls and above all learn the way of love from any source you see the Spirit of Christ in.  I will as always have more to say about my journey as time goes by but in the meantime be strong in The Spirit of Christ.

Questions & Inquisitions

First let me say Questions are great especially in the search for knowledge and wisdom, but there are questions which have neither of these noble quests in mind.  I have noticed a rise in questions that are purely for the purpose of an Inquisition.  An Inquisition is “an official investigation, especially one of a political or religious nature, characterized by lack of regard for individual rights, prejudice on the part of the examiners, and recklessly cruel punishments.”

There was a man during the Salem Witch Trials whose name was Giles Corey, this brave man refused to plead innocent or guilty.  He correctly understood that to answer that simple question was to justify the validity of the Inquisition.  For this rejection of a Question which was based in an Inquisition he was killed in a very gruesome manner.  Jesus also refused to answer question at his mock trial before Pilot and his accusers, I find it interesting that Satan means accuser in the Hebrew tongue.  The Book of Job opening heavenly scene is Satan asking God Questions, the purpose of which was to destroy what was in balance in order to rule in pride.

This brings me forward to the 21st century and in many respects not much has changed with regards to Questions and Inquisitions.  The other day I read an article where Mark Driscoll was interrogating another Christian and calling him a coward because he held a different interpretation to the Questions.  This kind of stuff goes on all the time especially in religion and politics, both areas where Unity is Vital.  For some though the answer is not a question that leads to Unity but rather leads to Conformity, this is the Inquisition I speak about.

One in which a “Christian” goes up to a person made in the image of God, and then asks “Do you know where you will go if you die today?”  Is it any wonder that many people see God as the lead Inquisitor, and the Jesus Question as the one you must answer their way or else.  What if you asked a person a question in order to learn about them and how you might Unify, but then its just so much easier to view them as Dead and Hell bound.

I encourage you to look at the questions you ask and above all else reject those questions that are based in an Inquisition Mindset.  I understand you have been taught this way but my Friend look at Jesus and see another Way.

Fixed Horizons & New Perspectives

One of the things I find myself  doing more and more lately, is observing how I Perceive & Understand the world around me.  It goes with saying that my Perceptions affect my ability to truly learn and change. This is I am sure closely related to my desire to see beyond the Fixed Horizons I have built up over the years. Most of these fixed Horizons to my dismay are constructed more of fiction than fact, although for many years I have been loath to admit it.

This for me has been most acute in the area of Theology, which for many years I treated as an exact science rather than the art form it really is.  There is a reason why the Theology Department at a liberal arts college, is not found in the Science Building.  Because Theology uses some of the same tools of logic and language, I just Assumed it carried with it the same weight.

So let me tell you what changed, I simply stopped treating the study of an Infinite God as a Fixed Horizon.  More importantly I stopped being fearful of questions that challenged by heretofore untouchable understanding and perceptions.  If there is one thing I am most thankful for in this Post Modern Age of Derrida, Rob Bell, Peter Rollins, and a whole host of new thinkers.  Is the courage by which these women and men ask questions that challenge Orthodoxy which holds the idea and assumption that it alone has the right of succession.  Because after all only the Old Questions and the assumptive answers discovered in ages past, can rightly be called the Truth.  It reminds me of how Dear Leader is chosen in North Korea, did anyone doubt it wasn’t going to be a Jong boy child?

Of course these types of environments are dangerous to challenge but without any credible threat other than a seven letter word (heretic), the questions are out of the bag. With the result that our passionate pursuit of God might actually begin to look like something, more than just a fortified castle with moat and burning oil included.

Let me give you an example from the other day, I had always assumed back in my Calvinist day, that Adam died spiritually in the Garden with Eve.  Then one day I heard someone ask a question that would challenge all my Fixed Horizons.  What if He only died Physically and it was His perceptions that changed His ability to see God clearly?  Wow then man being born to die and go to hell was just a perception based on an assumption, pretending to be a Fixed Horizon.

What would my theology look like if God still thought it was all Good and the process is one of restoration, rather than a courtroom with God demanding payment for being offended?

What if God is Love?

What if I was partly or completely wrong?

So my New Perceptions and Assumptions  are no more fixed than theirs, and are based on the Fluid Horizon of What if.   I have discovered and infinite God there who Loves me, a God who must be forever discovered, Horizon over Horizon over Horizon!  I have discovered faith again and the actual need for grace in the face of my ignorance, with eyes wide open.

The Islamic, Zen, Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, and Anybody JESUS.

The Islamic, Zen, Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, and Anybody JESUS.

The other day I made a New Friend in Saudi Arabia and it has prompted me to meditate harder in an area I was already flowing in.

Our form of Christianity in America and therefore how we reflect JESUS to the world is to over the top, in your face, bigger is better.

Everything about Faith in America is a Circus with various ringmasters, introducing ever more elaborate acts.  Its all sound and fury, shock and awe, intended to say in its own kind of way “who’s your Daddy?”

Now in a world where people walk a little more humble buy several magnitudes to the power, we need to seriously challenge and deconstruct how we Market JESUS.

So I have a Question that I hope will lead to some creative Spirit led thinking.

That question is what does

Islamic JESUS,

Buddhist JESUS,

Anybody  JESUS,

Hindu JESUS,

Jewish JESUS,

Look like?

I want to look at all the ways we tell people how to become followers of JESUS, because and let me be honest here we are dropping the ball big time people.

Let me drop a few ideas into the lap of our consciousness and see what evolves.

What if we encouraged people to know a Father God who according to JESUS is a lover, but we let them do it in secret?

What if we taught them that loving each other in public was the only Confession they needed?

What if we only had to share the Sermon on the Mount with them?

What if we encouraged them to baptize themselves in the privacy of their own homes, whether that is Saudi Arabia or Tokyo Japan?  Only with a great cloud of angelic on lookers, in the presence of the Living God?

What if we required no understanding of theology at all, just JESUS introducing them to a Loving God through the Spirit?

What if we did not demonize their Holy Books but told them Love is the only voice to listen to, and if they heard any teaching against love to pray for that person?

What if we built no more churches but became the Body of Christ behind the scenes like Dark Matter in the Universe?

What if we trusted the Spirit of the living God and de-institutionalize this thing called Evangelism?

What if JESUS is the Savior of the world and we have it all wrong, because we are trying to keep our church and theological systems alive?

What if we told people they could go to any place of worship and have a secret as Mary did, deep in their hearts?

What if this changed the world from the inside out?

More to come…
